Starting the Appliance

Connect the appliance to a power source and turn on the appliance. When the appliance is ready, you can run the First Time Configuration Wizard to configure it.

To start the appliance:

  1. Connect the power cables to the power supply units in the rear panel.
  2. From the rear of the appliance, press the Power button.

    The appliance turns on.

Available Software Images

TE Appliances come with different software images. Select the software image to install on the appliance.

It takes a few minutes to install the software image. To see the installation progress, use a serial cable to connect to the Console port.

Initial Configuration

Configure the appliance with the First Time Configuration Wizard. See the Installation and Upgrade Guide for Gaia Platforms related to the software version.

Note: The Installation and Upgrade Guides are released only for major versions. For example, for R77.30 version, see the R77 Versions guide.

Go to the Installing Security Gateways on Appliances section, and see the instructions to use the First Time Configuration Wizard.

Creating the Network Object

Configure the TE Appliances object as a Security Gateway object in the Security Management Server database.

  1. Open SmartDashboard.
  2. Configure a new gateway object for the appliance.
  3. Enter the IP address for the appliance.
  4. For a centrally managed deployment, create Secure Internal Communication (SIC) between the Security Gateway and the Security Management Server. Enter the activation key you used in the First Time Configuration Wizard.
  5. Configure the topology.
  6. Install the security policy.

Advanced Configuration

You can configure advanced options on Gaia from the Portal or the CLI.

Connecting to the TE Appliances CLI

To connect to the command line interface of the TE Appliances, use one of these:
