BitLocker Recovery

The BitLocker Recovery Key ID is used to find the specific Recovery Key for an encrypted client machine. With the Recovery Key, the user can unlock encrypted drives and perform recoveries. See the BitLocker Recovery Guide.

The Recovery Key ID to identify the client is like this:

• C9F38106-9E7C-46AE-8E88-E53948F11776

The Recovery Key is like this:

• 409673-073722-568381-219307-302434-260909-651475-146696

To Run the BitLocker Recovery Process

1. Click on the SmartEndpoint drop-down list for Tools and BitLocker Recovery Media.

   

2. Start typing the Recovery ID to identify the client. The number autofills.

   

3. Click on Get Recovery Key.

   

4. Type the Recovery Key on the client.

   

Note - The Advanced button on the BitLocker Recovery Media screen offers other processes:

• BitLocker Advanced Recovery finds the computer name or browses for the object in AD and performs recoveries.
• Write Media exports a BitLocker Key Package to use for recovery.
