Working with Quantum Scalable Chassis

Note - This chapter describes the unique procedures that apply only to Scalable Chassis 44000 / 64000.

Scalable Chassis Overview

Scalable Chassis are built for demanding environments and are based on proven technologies used by Fortune 100 companies and telecommunication vendors all over the world.

The ATCA-compliant, carrier-grade design offers scalability, availability, and serviceability with high performance and high port density.

Redundant Security Switch Modules (SSMs) provide switching fabric, physical interface, and routing functions.

Redundant Chassis Management Modules (CMMs) continuously check and monitor the health of the chassis including fans, power supplies, and Security Gateway Modules (SGMs).

For optimal reliability:

  • Check Point ClusterXL Load Sharing distributes the load between Security Gateway Modules in one chassis.

  • Check Point ClusterXL High Availability operates between chassis on the same or different sites (a Dual Chassis configuration eliminates down-time).

The Check Point SyncXL technology provides highly efficient synchronization of system and security information between components to ensure high system performance.

Action Plan:

  1. Connect Scalable Chassis on your network.

  2. On one of the Scalable Chassis, configure the applicable Security Group.

  3. In SmartConsole:

    1. Configure a single Security Gateway object (the Single Management Object, SMO) that represent this Security Group.

    2. Configure and install the applicable Security Policies on this Security Gateway object.

  4. On the Security Group, configure other applicable settings (for example, routing).

  5. Add other Security Gateway Modules to the chassis, as needed.

    The Security Gateway Modules automatically clone all software packages, settings, and security policies from the SMO Security Group Member.
