Upgrading Security Management Servers in Management High Availability from R80.20, R80.10, and lower

These instructions equally apply to:

Important - Before you upgrade Security Management Servers:

Back up your current configuration.

See the Upgrade Options and Prerequisites.

In R80 and above, examine the SmartConsole sessions:

  1. Connect with the SmartConsole to the Security Management Server.
  2. From the left navigation panel, click Manage & Settings > Sessions > View Sessions.
  3. You must publish or discard all sessions, for which the Changes column shows a number greater than zero.

    Right-click on such session and select Publish or Discard.

You must close all GUI clients (SmartConsole applications) connected to the source Security Management Server.

To upgrade from R80.20, R80.10, or R80

Upgrade the Primary Security Management Server with one of the supported methods:

Upgrade the Secondary Security Management Server with one of the supported methods:

Get the R80.30 SmartConsole. See Installing SmartConsole.

Connect with the SmartConsole to the R80.30 Primary Security Management Server.

Make sure SIC communication works correctly with the Secondary Security Management Server:

  1. Open the Secondary Security Management Server object.
  2. On the General Properties page, click Communication.
  3. Click Test SIC Status.

    The SIC Status must show Communicating.

  4. Click Close.
  5. Click OK.

Install the management database:

  1. In the top left corner, click Menu > Install database.
  2. Select all objects.
  3. Click Install.
  4. Click OK.

Install the Event Policy:

Important - This step applies only if the SmartEvent Correlation Unit Software Blade is enabled on the R80.30 Security Management Servers.

  1. In the SmartConsole, from the left navigation panel, click Logs & Monitor.
  2. At the top, click + to open a new tab.
  3. In the bottom left corner, in the External Apps section, click SmartEvent Settings & Policy.

    The Legacy SmartEvent client opens.

  4. In the top left corner, click Menu > Actions > Install Event Policy.
  5. Confirm.
  6. Wait for these messages to appear:

    SmartEvent Policy Installer installation complete

    SmartEvent Policy Installer installation succeeded

  7. Click Close.
  8. Close the Legacy SmartEvent client.

Make sure Management High Availability synchronization works correctly:

  1. In the top left corner, click Menu > Management High Availability.
  2. The status must show Successfully synced for all peers.

To upgrade from R7X versions

Upgrade the Primary Security Management Server with one of the supported methods:

Perform a clean install of the R80.30 on the Secondary Security Management Server.

Get the R80.30 SmartConsole. See Installing SmartConsole.

Connect with the SmartConsole to the R80.30 Primary Security Management Server.

Make sure SIC communication works correctly with the Secondary Security Management Server:

  1. Open the Secondary Security Management Server object.
  2. On the General Properties page, click Communication.
  3. Click Reset.
  4. Click Initialize.
  5. Click Close.
  6. Click OK.

Install the management database:

  1. In the top left corner, click Menu > Install database.
  2. Select all objects.
  3. Click Install.
  4. Click OK.

Install the Event Policy:

Important - This step applies only if the SmartEvent Correlation Unit Software Blade is enabled on the R80.30 Security Management Servers.

  1. In the SmartConsole, from the left navigation panel, click Logs & Monitor.
  2. At the top, click + to open a new tab.
  3. In the bottom left corner, in the External Apps section, click SmartEvent Settings & Policy.

    The Legacy SmartEvent client opens.

  4. In the top left corner, click Menu > Actions > Install Event Policy.
  5. Confirm.
  6. Wait for these messages to appear:

    SmartEvent Policy Installer installation complete

    SmartEvent Policy Installer installation succeeded

  7. Click Close.
  8. Close the Legacy SmartEvent client.

Make sure Management High Availability synchronization works correctly:

  1. In the top left corner, click Menu > Management High Availability.
  2. The status must show Successfully synced for all peers.
