SNMP

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an application layer protocol used to send and receive information between network devices. As part of the TCP/IP protocol suite, SNMP enables network administrators to manage network operations.

The SNMP mib allows Check Point devices to talk to and report on status to network management software such as HP OpenView. The Security Gateway SNMP daemon also provides Check Point specific variables.

When setting up a machine, you can assign those values. An SNMP management tool verifies the identity of a machine by querying those values. For example, when defining this network object, you can verify that the IP address is correct by pressing Get. This retrieves the IP address from the SNMP agent, and you can verify that it is the expected value.
