Log and Index File Maintenance

Managing the Log and Event Database

SmartEvent and Log Server use an optimization algorithm to manage disk space and other system resources. When the Logs and Events database becomes too large, the oldest logs and events are automatically deleted to according to the configured thresholds.

For more information about log storage on the gateway (local logging), see Understanding Logging.

Index Disk Space Management

On a management server, Log Server, or SmartEvent only, you can delete index files older than a specified number of days.

Note - This does not apply to gateways.

To delete older index files:

  1. Open the relevant server.
  2. Go to Logs > Local Storage > Index Files area.
  3. Select Delete index files older than
  4. Select the number of days.

Note - Global SmartEvent's disk-space management uses the default settings (threshold = less than 5GB in Logs partition). It can only be changed by a manual configuration. For more information, see sk117317.
