BPDU
The BDPU maximum age timer controls the maximum time before a bridge port saves its BPDU information. By default this is 20 seconds. This means that on the default setting it takes 20 seconds to fail over. You can change the BDPU maximum age timer to 6 seconds.
For example, on Cisco switches use spanning-tree vlan on each VLAN to configure the BDPU maximum age timer.
