Installing Transceivers

Security Switch ModulesClosed A hardware component on a 60000 / 40000 Appliance (Chassis) that manages the flow of network traffic to and from the Security Gateway Module in the Chassis. Acronym: SSM. (SSMs) support Twisted Pair and Fiber Optic transceivers to connect different interface types to the Chassis using SFP or SFP+ ports on SSMs.

The type and number of transceiver ports available depends on the SSM model.

Note - Remember to select a transceiver that matches the speed of the designated port.

Installing Twisted Pair Transceivers

You can insert twisted pair transceivers into the data and management ports on the SSM160.

Slide the transceiver into the open SSM port.

Installing Fiber Optic Transceivers

You can insert fiber transceivers into the data and management ports on the SSM160. The ports can be SFP and SFP+.

Slide the transceiver into the open SSM port.

Installing QSFP Splitters

  1. Insert the QSFP transceiver into the SSM.

  2. Insert the QSFP splitter cable into the transceiver.

    This converts one physical 40GbE QSPF port into 4 x 10GbE logical ports.
