6000 and 7000 Appliances Replacing AC Power Supply Units

These Check Point appliances have a redundant Power Supply Unit (PSU).

  • 6500 appliances

  • 6600 appliances

  • 6700 appliances
  • 6800 appliances

  • 6900 appliances

  • 7000 appliances

If necessary, you can replace a PSU on these appliances. Note that both PSUs on an appliance must be of the same type (both AC). Mixing AC and DC PSUs is not supported and can cause damage to the appliance.

Important - Make sure you are electromagnetically grounded before you install, uninstall, or replace a PSU. ESD (electrostatic discharge) can damage the appliance.

Power supply unit/s

Connect to an electric outlet.

In 6500, 6700 Base, 6800, and 7000 Base appliances, one module is included. An optional dual redundant hot-swappable power supply is available.

In 6600, 6700 Plus, 6900, and 7000 Plus appliances two modules are supplied.

You can use the cable restraints/clips to avoid accidental removal of the power supply cable.

Alarm off button for power supply units

If a power supply cable is not connected to the outlet, an alarm sounds continuously. Press this button to turn off the alarm.

Removing an AC Power Supply Unit

Before you remove a Power Supply Unit, we recommend that you make sure that either:

  • The other power supply is installed and connected to a working power source

    Or

  • Shutdown the appliance

To remove a Power Supply Unit:

  1. Remove the power cord from the Power Supply Unit.

  2. If the alarm sounds, press the alarm off button to the right of the Power Supply Units.

    The alarm stops.

  3. While holding the release lever, pull the extraction handle to remove the Power Supply Unit.

Note - Remove the Power Supply Unit only with the extraction handle to prevent any possible damage.

Installing an AC Power Supply Unit

To install a replacement Power Supply Unit:

  1. Insert the Power Supply Unit into the power supply slot.

  2. Push the Power Supply Unit in until the release lever clicks.

  3. Insert the power cord into the power supply socket.

  4. Make sure that the power LED is illuminated.

Using the Restraint Clip

The 6500, 6600, 6800, 6900, and 7000 appliances have a power cable restraint clip attached to the Power Supply Unit (PSU). Use the restraint clip to prevent accidental removal of the power cable.

To secure the restraint clip on the power supply cable:

  1. Make sure the restraint clip is in the open position (upward).

  2. Connect the power supply cable to the power supply inlet on the PSU.

  3. Push down on the restraint clip to close it and secure the power supply cable.
